Born out of an Elsevier® tradition in scholarly communication, ScienceDirect has always followed a vision of the digital library of the future. Today we offer one of the world's most advanced web delivery systems for scientific, technical and medical information. ScienceDirect already covers around one quarter of the world’s full-text scientific, technical and medical (STM) literature published in 24 fields of science, and continues to deliver new programs of high-quality online content that researchers need for their work. ‘Articles in Press’ are available to give researchers the advantage of access to articles on average 15 days after they are accepted for publication, before appearance in the print journal. At this moment in time, ScienceDirect offers over seven million full-text articles from over 2000 peer-reviewed journals, as well as a growing range of authoritative books, including reference works, handbooks and book series, 49 reference works, 150 book series titles and 164 Handbooks volumes are now online, with at least 10 reference works added each year. The books cover the core disciplines of life, physical and social sciences and are fully linked with journal articles, giving scientists a broader perspective of their area of study.

Every journal is heavily indexed and peer-reviewed, with critically acclaimed articles by the most respected scholars in their fields. MUSE is also the sole source of complete, full-text versions of titles from many of the world's leading university presses and scholarly societies. For research libraries, MUSE provides an affordable selection of top-tier, heavily indexed, and widely held journals. For undergraduate libraries, we combine the most widely held, heavily used, core general education titles. Arts/humanities and social science collections allow libraries with specialized needs to acquire a set of key journals. In addition, MUSE collections are a very economical and effective information literacy tool for secondary schools and community colleges.

GenderWatch is a full text database of unique and diverse publications that focus on how gender impacts a broad spectrum of subject areas. With its archival material, dating back to 1970 in some cases, GenderWatch is a repository of an important historical perspective on the evolution of the women's movement and the changes in gender roles. Publications include scholarly journals, magazines, newspapers, newsletters, regional publications, books, and NGO, government and special reports.
